Learning Support Assistant – Behaviour Support Primary Mainstream School – Balham, Wandsworth. ASAP Start – KS1 and KS2.
 
Are you looking to support children with additional learning needs? Do you have experience working with challenging behaviour? Are you interested in supporting young people’s Mental Health?
 
Experience working with children in or out of a school setting is required.
 
An excellent Primary school in Balham is currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant/Behaviour Mentor to join them ASAP on a full time ongoing basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a graduate or experienced teaching assistant to develop their experience with Special Educational Needs in a Primary School setting. A graduate with a degree graded 2:2 or above is ideal for this role and some previous experience working with SEN children is desirable but not essential. The position will be working 1:1 with pupils with Special Needs and Challenging Behaviour within the schoo both in and out of the classroom on a 1 to 1 and small group basis.
 
The SEN teaching assistant will have the opportunity to work closely with children who have mental health difficulties display challenging behaviour or learning disabilities such as Autism. The primary school is near Balham underground station and close to a number of bus links from adjoining areas such as Morden, Clapham and Stockwell. This Primary school are looking for a confident, dedicated Learning Support Assistant who is enthusiastic and passionate about their input into a child’s education.
 
Ideally, the successful SEN Teaching Assistant will have excellent behaviour management skills and desirably some form of restraint training (although this is something that can be taught at the school at a later date.

The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will be able to commit for a full academic year and the expected salary will be from GBP70-GBP90 per day. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate to expand their classroom experience prior to undertaking their teaching training and becoming a fully qualified classroom teacher. Relevant previous experience would include youth work, support work, mental health work and SEN in sport.
