Graduate Teaching Assistant – SEN & SEMH Schools | Greater Manchester

We are currently seeking recent graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Education, Health & Social Care, and related disciplines to support students within SEN and SEMH schools across Greater Manchester. This role offers invaluable experience working with children and young people with a range of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD)
  • Physical Disabilities
  • Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Challenging behaviours

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students’ academic progress, social development, and overall wellbeing within a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Your Responsibilities

✅ Support students through both 1:1 and small-group interventions to promote academic and social development.

✅ Implement positive behaviour management strategies to help students regulate their emotions and engage effectively in learning.

✅ Adapt and differentiate learning resources to meet individual student needs.

✅ Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs, and wider school staff to ensure students receive the support they require.

✅ Foster a nurturing, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every child feels valued, heard, and encouraged to succeed.

The Ideal Candidate

✅ Holds a degree in Psychology, Education, Social Sciences, Health & Social Care, or a related field.

✅ Has previous experience working with children or young people.

✅ Demonstrates a confident, proactive, and compassionate approach.

✅ Has an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.

✅ Possesses experience of, or a strong understanding of, SEN and SEMH needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
