Primary SEN Teacher (Bury, Manchester)

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for an experienced, confident, and proactive SEN Primary Teacher to join a highly supportive primary specialist school in Manchester. The Role

As an SEN Teacher, you will take responsibility for a small class of pupils, delivering engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.

You will work closely with Teaching Assistants and external professionals to create a structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. The role requires someone who is confident managing challenging behaviours and working alongside support staff to ensure pupils’ personal care needs are met with dignity and consistency.

A proactive and adaptable approach is essential, with a strong focus on developing pupils’ independence, communication skills, and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Lead a small class group, supported by Teaching Assistants
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs/ILPs)
  • Manage and respond to challenging behaviours using positive strategies
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and external professionals
  • Oversee and support pupils’ personal care needs alongside support staff
  • Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress
  • Create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment
  • Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and communication development

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Proven experience working with pupils with SEN
  • Confident managing challenging behaviour within a specialist setting
  • Strong understanding of differentiated teaching and inclusive practice
  • Proactive, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable Skills

  • Experience within a specialist or alternative provision setting
  • Knowledge of a range of SEN needs (e.g. ASD, SLCN, SEMH, complex needs)
  • Experience leading a team of support staff
  • Additional SEN qualifications or training

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
