Sen Teaching Assistant
Job description
Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a dedicated and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist educational setting in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people with additional needs to thrive both academically and personally.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely within a small class group of approximately 10–12 pupils, supporting them across all areas of school life.
You will play a key role in helping pupils develop confidence, independence, and social skills, alongside supporting their academic progress. This includes working 1:1 and in small groups, implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and providing consistent pastoral and behavioural support.
You may also be required to support pupils with personal care, mobility, and specialist activities such as hydrotherapy, depending on their individual needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEN on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assist in implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)
- Provide support with academic, social, and emotional development
- Assist with personal care, welfare, and physical needs where required
- Promote inclusive practice and positive behaviour management
- Work alongside teachers, therapists, and external professionals
- Support classroom preparation and maintain a safe learning environment
- Record and report pupil progress to teaching staff
- Assist with supervision during lessons and activities
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people (preferably with SEN)
- Patient, resilient, and caring approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
- Willingness to support personal care and additional needs
Desirable Skills
- Experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Psychology degree)
- Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
- Experience working within a specialist or alternative provision setting

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
