Job description

Flexible Supply Teacher / Cover Supervisor

Central & South Bristol
Flexible Supply | Choose Your Days
Start Date: ASAP
Mainstream Secondary Schools | KS3 & KS4

Want to work in secondary schools without committing to a full-time timetable?

I am recruiting Teachers and Cover Supervisors for flexible supply opportunities across mainstream secondary schools in Central and South Bristol.

Whether you're available one day a week or five, supply gives you the flexibility to choose when you work while gaining experience across a range of Bristol schools.

This could be ideal if you're an experienced teacher looking for a better work-life balance, an ECT wanting to experience different schools, or an experienced Cover Supervisor confident taking responsibility for a secondary classroom.

✅ About the Role

Depending on your experience and the needs of the school, you may be working as a Supply Teacher or Cover Supervisor across KS3 and KS4.

Your day could involve:

  • Taking responsibility for classes during teacher absence
  • Delivering pre-planned lessons and activities
  • Teaching within your subject specialism where appropriate
  • Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining clear expectations
  • Ensuring students remain focused and engaged with their learning
  • Adapting confidently to different classes, year groups and school environments
  • Following individual schools' behaviour and safeguarding policies
  • Providing feedback to permanent teaching staff at the end of lessons

For Cover Supervisor positions, you do not necessarily need QTS, but previous experience managing groups of secondary-aged students is strongly desired.

✅ Who Would Flexible Supply Suit?

I'd love to hear from:

  • Qualified Secondary Teachers
  • Early Career Teachers (ECTs)
  • Experienced Cover Supervisors
  • Teachers returning to education
  • Retired or semi-retired teachers
  • Unqualified Teachers with relevant classroom experience
  • HLTA-level education professionals
  • Graduates with strong secondary classroom experience
  • Sports Coaches or Instructors with experience managing larger groups of young people

✅ All Subject Specialisms Welcome

We're interested in teachers across all secondary subjects, including:

  • Maths
  • English
  • Science
  • Humanities
  • PE
  • MFL
  • Business
  • Computing / ICT
  • Art
  • Drama / Performing Arts
  • Design Technology
  • Food Technology
  • Music

Cover Supervisors should be happy to work across a range of subjects, as lesson content will usually be provided by the school.

✅ What We're Looking For

Supply works best for people who can quickly adapt to different environments.

You'll ideally be:

✔ Confident managing a secondary classroom

✔ Able to establish expectations and routines quickly

✔ Comfortable working across different subjects and year groups

✔ Adaptable and able to think on your feet

✔ Calm and confident around a range of behaviours

✔ Professional and approachable with students and staff

✔ Proactive and willing to get involved

✔ Reliable once you've accepted a booking

Previous secondary school experience is highly desirable.

✅ You Choose Your Availability

One of the biggest benefits of supply is that you decide when you're available.

Whether you want to work:

  • One or two days alongside other commitments
  • Three or four regular days each week
  • Full-time supply Monday to Friday
  • Certain days on an ad-hoc basis

...we can work around your availability.

There's no requirement to commit to five days every week. All we ask is that once you've accepted a booking, you are reliable and committed to attending.

✅ Why Choose Flexible Supply?

  • Choose the days you work
  • Experience different secondary schools across Bristol
  • Maintain a better work-life balance
  • No ongoing planning responsibilities for day-to-day cover
  • Build relationships with local schools
  • Great way for ECTs to develop confidence and classroom experience
  • Explore different schools before committing to a permanent position
  • Long-term and permanent opportunities available if circumstances change
  • Access to CPD and ongoing support

✅ Requirements

For Supply Teachers:

  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Secondary classroom experience

For Cover Supervisors:

  • QTS is not required
  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students is highly desirable
  • Confidence managing a full classroom independently

All applicants will require an Enhanced Child-Only DBS or willingness to obtain one.

Apply Today

If you're a Teacher or experienced Cover Supervisor looking for flexible secondary school work across Central and South Bristol, I'd love to hear from you.

Let me know your subject specialism, your previous school experience and which days you're available, and I can look at matching you with suitable schools.
