An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and ambitious English Teacher to join a thriving secondary school in Basingstoke from September 2026. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on Second in Department responsibilities, working closely with the Head of English to further strengthen an already successful faculty.

This role would suit a talented classroom practitioner looking to progress into middle leadership or an existing leader seeking a new challenge within a supportive and forward-thinking school environment.

The English Department

The English department is a well-established and highly respected team that is ambitious for every student. Teachers work collaboratively to deliver an engaging curriculum that develops students’ confidence in reading, writing and communication while securing strong outcomes across Key Stages 3 and 4.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting departmental development, curriculum planning and the continued drive for excellence within the faculty.

The Role

You will:

• Teach English Language and Literature across KS3 and KS4
• Deliver engaging and challenging lessons that inspire students to achieve their best
• Support the strategic development of the English department
• Work alongside the Head of Department to raise standards and student outcomes
• Promote high expectations for achievement, behaviour and engagement
• Contribute to curriculum innovation and enrichment opportunities
• Support colleagues through collaboration and the sharing of best practice

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification
• Has experience teaching English across KS3 and KS4
• Demonstrates a track record of delivering strong outcomes
• Is passionate about raising achievement and improving life chances
• Has leadership potential or previous middle leadership experience
• Is reflective, motivated and committed to continuous improvement
• Enjoys working as part of a collaborative and ambitious team
