Job description
Are you experienced in supporting children or young people one-to-one and seeking flexible work?
We are currently looking for an English and Maths tutor to work directly with children and young people, helping them meet academic goals alongside their peers. This role often supports learners outside of mainstream school settings.
About the role:
As an English and Maths tutor, you will deliver engaging, face-to-face sessions with children in their residential homes. You’ll often collaborate with schools or social workers to provide tailored alternative education support.
What to expect:
-
Planning lessons and resources tailored to each child’s individual learning needs, focusing on English and Maths skills development.
-
Creating creative, motivating lessons to help pupils catch up and progress in their studies.
-
Using behaviour management strategies and coping mechanisms, as some pupils may have additional behavioural or emotional needs.
-
Locations will vary depending on the pupil’s needs but will always be agreed upon before tuition starts.
What we’re looking for:
-
Expertise in English and Maths tutoring, either through qualifications or proven experience.
-
Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a one-to-one setting.
-
Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies to support learners effectively.
-
Ability to plan and deliver engaging sessions that cover core skills and cross-curricular learning.
-
Skills to assess pupil progress and provide clear, constructive feedback.
-
Experience working with SEN (Special Educational Needs) pupils is highly desirable.
Additional requirements:
-
You must provide evidence of your skills and experience.
-
All applicants will undergo background checks and need a current DBS certificate (with update service registered). Support with DBS applications is available through Teaching Personnel.
