Job description
This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...
Are you a recent Graduate with a Degree in Education Studies, Special Needs or a Core Subject?
Are you currently weighing up your options on what to do next? If you are looking for your career path in Education, Teaching Personnel could help you.
As the Market Leaders for Education Recruitment, Teaching Personnel can offer you a number of different career paths into Education. Please see below for a snippet of what we can offer you.
Teaching Assistant
You'll support pupils across a range of abilities and undertake duties such as preparing the classroom, setting up and clearing away activities, helping students with their reading, assisting in the planning of lessons and managing classroom behaviour. You may also be known as a classroom or learning support practitioner. Full-time TAs can work up to 37.5 hours a week. To gain an entry-level position you'll need GCSE grades A to C in maths and English as a minimum.
Learning Behaviour Mentor
You could become a learning mentor and work with pupils who require help in overcoming barriers to learning. You'll cover a variety of issues, from punctuality, absence, challenging behaviour and abuse, to working with able and gifted learners. You'll be based primarily in primary, secondary and further education schools. You'll need to demonstrate a good standard of general education, particularly in English and Maths.
Education Support Worker
The role of an education support worker is all-encompassing - you could be responding to physical, behavioural, emotional or academic needs in school, college or university settings. You'll attend lessons with students and may be required to act as a translator (i.e. into British Sign Language for deaf students), scribe or be on hand to physically help students move to and from their lessons or lectures.
Sports Coach
Working closely with pupils and schools with a particular focus in sport, you'll improve performance and develop physical and psychological fitness. You could be planning and delivering lessons of PE up to GCSE standard, so an awareness of the curriculum is ideal.
Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant
If you have a keen interest in supporting those with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, emotional or behavioural problems, dyslexia or sensory impairments, the route of an SEN TA could be for you. You'll help to create a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment for pupils in your care and identify individual needs. To become a SEN teaching assistant you will need a true passion and the commitment to help students progress both academically and in their personal development.
