Exciting Opportunity for a Drama Teacher in Levenshulme!

Are you a dynamic and creative Drama Teacher looking for a new challenge? Teaching Personnel is delighted to present a full-time position for a Drama Teacher at an Ofsted Good secondary school in Levenshulme. This role is available to start in September for the full academic year, with the potential for permanency based on performance. The salary for this role is £30,000 to £46,525 per annum, in line with PayScale.

Role Overview:

As a Drama Teacher, you will have the opportunity to inspire and engage students through the exploration of dramatic arts, including acting, improvisation, scriptwriting, and theatre production. You will play a key role in nurturing students' creativity, confidence, and communication skills, while fostering a love for theatre and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver dynamic and interactive Drama lessons that cover a range of topics and techniques, catering to the diverse interests and abilities of students.

  • Practical Performance: Facilitate opportunities for students to participate in practical performance activities, including scripted plays, improvisation exercises, and devised performances, both within the classroom and on stage.

  • Theatre Studies: Introduce students to key concepts and practitioners in theatre studies, exploring different styles, genres, and periods of theatre history, and analysing plays and performances critically.

  • Creative Expression: Encourage students to express themselves creatively through drama, enabling them to explore issues, emotions, and narratives through role-play, storytelling, and character development.

  • Production Skills: Teach students technical skills related to theatre production, such as stagecraft, lighting, sound, costume, and set design, and involve them in the planning and execution of school productions and performances.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues within the Drama department and across the school to develop cross-curricular projects, workshops, and extracurricular activities that enrich students' learning experiences.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Assess student performance and progress through practical workshops, performances, written assignments, and reflective journals, providing constructive feedback to support their development as performers and theatre-makers.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Drama or Performing Arts.

  • Passion for drama education and a commitment to fostering students' creativity, confidence, and communication skills through theatre.

  • Previous experience teaching Drama at the secondary level, preferably within a UK school setting.

  • Strong knowledge of theatre history, dramatic techniques, and contemporary theatre practices.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities.
