Cover Supervisor Manager – Secondary School – New Mills

Location: New Mills, High Peak
Start Date: September 2025 (or earlier by negotiation)
Contract Type: Full-time, Term Time Only
Salary: £120 – £140 per day (depending on experience and responsibilities)
Employment Type: Long-term role with potential for permanent appointment


Overview:

A successful and forward-thinking secondary school in New Mills is seeking to appoint a committed and capable Cover Supervisor Manager. This is a hybrid role that involves both the coordination of daily classroom cover across the school and delivery of cover lessons when required.

The role offers the opportunity to lead on the operational side of cover while remaining actively involved in the classroom. It is ideally suited to an experienced Cover Supervisor or HLTA who is looking to step into a more strategic, management-focused position within a supportive school environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Cover Coordination & Operational Leadership:

  • Manage daily cover arrangements for teaching staff absences, including short-notice and long-term planning

  • Maintain and communicate the internal cover rota across departments

  • Liaise with SLT, admin teams, and external agencies to ensure effective cover provision

  • Support and oversee the performance of internal cover supervisors and supply staff on site

  • Monitor and record staff absence data and cover usage for senior leadership reporting

Classroom Supervision:

  • Provide classroom cover in the absence of teaching staff using prepared lesson plans

  • Supervise students in a variety of subjects across KS3 and KS4

  • Maintain positive classroom environments and manage pupil behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy

  • Step in to cover emergency or last-minute lessons when required

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Mentor and support new cover supervisors and visiting supply staff

  • Deliver staff briefings, induction sessions and guidance on school expectations

  • Provide feedback to SLT on cover quality and classroom engagement

  • Promote consistency in teaching standards during staff absence


Ideal Candidate Profile:

Essential Criteria:

  • At least one year’s experience working as a Cover Supervisor, HLTA, or similar educational role

  • Strong classroom management skills and confidence delivering pre-planned lessons to full classes

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage timetables and staff allocation efficiently

  • Professional, flexible, and solution-focused approach

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with school systems such as SIMS or Arbor

  • Experience managing or coordinating staff rotas or schedules

  • Ambition to progress into school operations or pastoral leadership
