Job description

Position: Cover Supervisor
Location: Northampton

Do you have experience working with children and want to make a difference in students’ educational journeys within a school environment?

Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for Cover Supervisors to join our team and work in schools in Northampton and the surrounding areas to cover lessons during teacher absences.

About the role

As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring students continue to receive high-quality education in the absence of their regular teacher. You’ll work closely with other staff members to deliver engaging and informative lessons that are pre-planned by the permanent teacher. You will also be responsible for supporting students who may require extra assistance during lessons and providing guidance on classwork.

It is important that you are able to provide constructive feedback to the permanent teacher or relevant faculty members where appropriate.

You’ll need to be flexible and adaptable, as you may be asked to cover a variety of subjects and year groups. An innovative and inclusive approach to lesson delivery is also essential to ensure students of all abilities can access and understand the content.

During quieter periods for cover—particularly in the summer term—there are opportunities for paid exam invigilation work, which offers a valuable way to stay involved in the school environment. Free training is also available, ensuring you feel fully confident and prepared in your role.

Requirements

  • Teaching qualifications are not required, but experience in teaching, leading, or coaching groups of students is highly desirable.
  • Subject-specific qualifications are advantageous.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible, able to work with all age groups and abilities.
  • A child-only enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Overseas police clearance if applicable.
