Job description

Cover Supervisor – Secondary Schools in Bury

We are seeking confident, resilient and enthusiastic Cover Supervisors to support a number of secondary schools across Bury. These roles are ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, or individuals with strong transferable skills who are looking to gain valuable school-based experience.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes in the absence of the teacher, ensuring students remain on task, follow instructions and engage positively in their learning. You do not need prior school experience—full guidance and support will be provided. Applicants should bring confidence, strong communication skills and the ability to manage behaviour effectively. Cover supervisors will be paid on a daily rate starting at £90 and can go up depending on experience. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervising classes across a range of subjects using pre‑set work
  • Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a calm learning environment
  • Supporting students with tasks and encouraging positive engagement
  • Following school policies, safeguarding procedures and behaviour systems
  • Reporting any concerns or feedback to teaching staff
  • Ensuring the classroom remains safe, orderly and focused

Requirements

  • Degree or strong academic background preferred
  • Confident, professional manner with the ability to lead a classroom
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students
  • Reliability, adaptability and a proactive mindset
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
