Teaching Personnel are seeking a compassionate, resilient and dedicated Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join one of our partner Complex Special Needs Schools in Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT).
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with significant and varied additional learning needs, including:
✅ Complex medical needs
✅ Severe learning difficulties (SLD)
✅ Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
✅ Autism (ASD)
✅ Communication difficulties
✅ Sensory processing needs
✅ Challenging behaviour
About the Role
- Location: RCT
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract: Full‑time, long‑term (with permanent potential)
- Hours: School day (Monday–Friday)
- Setting: Highly supportive, well‑equipped complex needs school
As a Complex Needs TA, you will:
- Support pupils aged 3–19 with highly individualised learning plans
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support
- Assist with personal care, mobility and sensory‑based activities
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and specialist staff
- Use communication tools such as PECs, Makaton or visual timetables (training can be provided)
- Promote independence, wellbeing and engagement
- Help manage behaviour in a calm, safe and consistent way
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour and care plans at all times
What We’re Looking For
You do not need direct school experience — we welcome applicants from care, support work, childcare, youth work, sports coaching or similar backgrounds.
You’ll be a great fit if you are:
- Patient, calm and emotionally resilient
- Comfortable providing personal care
- Confident working with pupils with complex additional needs
- Able to build trusting and supportive relationships
- Reliable, consistent and committed to pupil wellbeing
Requirements
- Enhanced Child & Adult DBS (or willing to apply)
- Right to work in the UK
- Experience in care, SEN, ALN or behaviour support is desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
