Behaviour Teaching Assistant required in Pupil Referral Unit

Teaching Assistant

  • Have you got any experience working with secondary aged pupils with SEMH difficulties (EBD) or challenging behaviour
  • Are you looking to work in an education setting and believe you could positively influence the lives of pupils in school who have came from vulnerable background
  • Do you have any experience in any of the following backgrounds: care services, prisons, youth worker, sports coaching or psychology?

Teaching Personnel are looking to recruit SEN Teaching Assistants/LSA's to work within a pupil referral unit in Liverpool. This school has a requirement for day to day staff who are looking for part time work as well as full time roles. The rate of pay for this school is £9.50 per hour.

This school is based is Liverpool, a short drive from the M62 or for those teaching assistants who use public transport, there are bus stops located within walking distance to the school. Most pupils attend the school on a short term basis and are there most often a result of exclusion from mainstream education. The pupils all have SEMH difficulties and the majority of pupils are very challenging. Ability of pupils varies greatly and SEN in school consists of ADHD and EAL.

Responsibilities

*To encourage pupils to join in with all activities and to take a full and active part in school life.

*To prepare, modify and adapt resources and learning materials for the pupil as agreed with the class teacher and other professionals.

*To assist in resolving any behavioural, social and emotional difficulties which may arise.

*To encourage the pupil to develop a positive self image, and to develop confidence in their abilities and communication with others.

For this school, it is not essential to have worked in a school previously however working with secondary aged children in some capacity is preferred. Alternatively, if you have worked in a primary PRU and are interested in working in secondary schools, please do apply. There are no specific qualifications required in terms of Teaching Assistant qualifications but having behaviour management training such as Team-Teach or MAPA is highly desirable.

The type of person who usually gets on well in this type of environment usually comes from one of the following backgrounds: care services, prisons, youth workers, sports coaching and psychology.
