Teaching Assistant, Easter Start

Newport Secondary School

Pay GBP10+ per hour

A client secondary school in Newport are looking to recruit a teaching assistant to support a young student full time with challenging behaviour ASAP. Experience working with challenging behaviour in any setting (Care, voluntary, prison, youth work) is ideal so that you have the knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.The school are looking for someone to start after the Easter holidays and transfer onto the schools contract ready for the next academic year. 

The successful teaching assistant will be based in the behaviour base with the student where all of their lessons are taught. The lessons consist of numeracy and literacy with an hour of games in the afternoon as a reward for students if they have stuck to the task. Ensuring that the student is engaged in the learning and eager to learn is the main objective, trying to keep disruption to a minimum.

The school is a large secondary located close to the M4 very accessible and close to public transport links. The school is a new build with outstanding facilities, especially their sports facilities. The behaviour base has up to ten pupils throughout the day as well as a main class teacher and three teaching assistants. You will be part of a good learning environment with an abundance of extra curriculum activities. Pupils well-being is at the heart of everything the school does, and they are looking to invest heavily into their staff to ensure this continues.

It is important that the successful teaching assistant is looking for a career in education as the school want to invest in training and opportunities. 

The teaching assistant role:

  • Full time, temporary to permanent role Monday to Friday starting after Easter
  • Supporting pupil 1:1 in year 7 
  • Pay between GBP285 and GBP300 per week
  • Full training provided - safeguarding, team teach, manual handling and other courses 
  • Supporting pupils within a behaviour base
