Job description

STRONG BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT NEEDED URGENTLY IN RCT HUB SCHOOL FOR IMMEDIATE START IN THIS PERMANENT ROLE.

A partner-school in the RCT Porth Region is looking for a full-time LSA to work 1:1 with An 11 year old male pupil with challenging behaviour and mild learning difficulties. Government funding has gone towards setting up an alternative base of 10-12 pupils who struggle to focus and regulate their behaviour in mainstream classes. You will have a good ratio of support staff: pupils who are involved in running the remainder of the class.

ESSENTIAL

  • Have Full Time Availability Mon-Fri (8:30-15:00)
DESIRABLE not essential: Have been Team Teach Trained (even if it has expired)
  • Be able to start Immediately.
  •  Good behaviour management
  • Resilience and continuity

This pupil is the only member of the class who has a statement, which means the school are looking for consistency and the right person to positively influence his behaviour over the course of the year. As this unit has several long-term objectives, you will be a key member in ensuring that the pupils are able to gain a sense of routine and continuity. As there are only plans to expand parts of this area, the school want to take the successful candidate onto permanent contract after a successful probationary period

AVANTAGEOUS

  • Experience working in a similar environment even if it is not a school or educational setting. Care backgrounds, security work and Youth workers etc have been successful with similar roles. Any work where conflict resolution comes into play is an advantage
  • Have at least C-grade in GCSE Maths and English- but should your academic achievements not be to this level, you are encouraged to apply should you have skills, experiences or qualifications in alternative curriculum and BTEC, vocations and basic skills

The school is a KS3-5 site in Rhondda Cynon Taf that has a large emphasis on basic skills, vocational subjects and low ability groups for the learning needs departments and low ability core groups. Although there are high achievers in the school, there are also a lot of pupils who lack academic and emotional consistency at home. The school has a lot of pupils who have additional learning needs, and these bring frustrations that fuel behavioural issues and concerns regarding pupil engagement and attendance.

The school itself is possibly one of the most supportive environments you could hope to find yourself in. The inclusion manager, Special Needs Department Lead and Support Staff are always welcoming to our candidates and provide all the support necessary should you need guidance, demonstrations or reassurance with how you are working with that particular pupil. It has also made enormous strides in improving behaviour policy and attitudes towards learning on ESTYN reports since a new head and inclusion manager turned the school around almost two years ago.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
