Behavioural support assistant

BB9 Nelson Primary School require experienced Support Assistant to support child in year 5 on a 1:1 basis.

Full time support role working from 8:30-15:30 on a daily basis.

Ofsted GOOD School in the Centre of Nelson

A school that have used Teaching Personnel for a number of years have approached the Primary team in order to source and recruit a specialist teaching assistant who can work on a 1:1 basis alongside a child with challenging behaviour. The child is currently working in the Year 5 class and requires 1:1 support throughout the school day. The school are ideally looking for an experienced Teaching/Support assistant to work with the child as a role model in order to make a positive impact on behaviour, which in turn would allow the child to access the curriculum at their level.

The child does hold a strong academic background but is working well below the National average for a child in year 5. The child does struggle to be in the classroom and is often taken out by the class TA, which is then impacting planned interventions the class TA is expected to complete on a daily basis. The staff in school have used certain strategies and techniques to keep the child on task.  The Head teacher has commented on the job specification that she would ideally like a member of staff who is trained and possibly experienced using verbal reasoning and positive handling.

This role will be on a supply basis and will start after May half term, June 7th to be exact. The child is not in danger of exclusion, nor do they want the child to work in the local referral unit. The funding has been allocated to school in order to provide some specialist support. It is therefore important that the applying candidates and the successful one will be someone who can manage his behaviour and keep him in task. The role will be to support the child for his remaining time in school, which will be the rest of year 5 & then into year 6 next year.

If you are interested in applying and registering your interest, then please contact me in the office on 01772 386242. You can also email me your CV and cover email to specify the relevant experiences.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
