Teaching Personnel, an education agency specialising in recruitment for educational institutions, is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant for a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Southampton. The PRU serves as an alternative provision for pupils who have been excluded from mainstream schools due to various reasons, including behavioural issues, non-attendance, and self-harm.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to pupils within the PRU who require assistance with managing their behaviour and emotions.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages pupils to engage with their education.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to develop and implement individualised behaviour plans for pupils.
  • Support pupils in developing social skills and managing their emotions effectively.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils, promoting their well-being and building trust.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to the teaching staff and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with parents/guardians, external agencies, and the wider school community to ensure effective communication and support for the pupils.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with pupils who have challenging behaviour or have been excluded from mainstream schools is desirable.
  • A strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies.
  • Ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with pupils.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with pupils facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of the pupils.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
