Teaching personnel are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant to work full-time in Southampton at a local Secondary Pupil Referral Unit. The school promotes an all inclusive for SEN students, so as the Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for helping maintain a supportive classroom.
In recent years the school has undergone a refurbishment and has developed into a modern looking school with good facilities. 55 students attend and they operate small class sizes, typically 6-8 students to one teacher and two Teaching Assistants in order to allow for greater support. Various learning difficulties are present at the school including ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism and a large majority of the pupils demonstrate challenging behaviour. Students at the school have been excluded from mainstream education with the aim of re-integration according to their individual development plans.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Very passionate and motivated to assist pupils to reach their full potential.
- Hard working, organised and hold very good communication skills.
- Proactive and wanting to make a difference to the pupils education
- Previous experience in SEMH or challenging behaviour is desirable but not essential providing additional relevant experience.
- Team teach, Safeguarding, and Autism Awareness training is also desirable but not essential.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
