Behaviour Focussed Learning Support Assistant, London Borough of Greenwich, Primary School

A primary school in Kidbrooke is looking for a teaching assistant to join them in December to provide 1:1 support for two boys in key stage 1 who have behavioural difficulties and delayed development. They work in their own classroom, in a separate part of the school from the main classrooms. There are also 2 other classrooms in this part of the school for key stage 2 students.

The role:

  • Full time, beginning Monday 3rd December 2018
  • Lasts until the Christmas holidays in the first instance, but has the potential to continue in the New Year
  • Provide support for the subjects each day including numeracy, reading and literacy, PE, PSHE
  • Manage behaviour - use different strategies to keep them focussed and on task and remind them of expectations and consequences
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher - he has an excellent relationship with the boys and will help you to understand them quickly
  • Working hours are 08:30am - 15:30pm (although the students are only in between 09:30am and 15:00pm) so you have an hour in the morning to prepare for them coming in, and half an hour in the afternoon to tidy away and prepare for the next morning

There is a new Head of Department at the school who runs the behaviour provision and has a very forward thinking attitude. Communication is key - you will be encouraged to share your ideas and try different ways of working with the boys which may be successful as well as following the routines that are already in place.

An attractive salary can be negotiated - anywhere between £55 and £85 a day, dependent on your experience, qualifications and references.
