Autism Support Teaching Assistant – Secondary School – Newport

Location: Duffryn, Newport
Pay Rate: £83.85 per day
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Start Date: 1st September 2025


Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)? A welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Duffryn, Newport is seeking a dedicated Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join their team and support pupils aged 11-16 in their integrated ASD base.

This rewarding and varied role involves working closely with teaching staff and supporting students with autism in both academic and social settings. Every day is different, offering both challenges and meaningful opportunities to positively impact young lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students with ASD in both classroom and small-group environments.

  • Work closely with teachers to deliver tailored learning strategies.

  • Promote a calm, purposeful and supportive learning environment.

  • Help students overcome barriers to learning and encourage personal development.

  • Manage and respond appropriately to a range of behaviours.

✅ Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience supporting children or young people with autism.

  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Be flexible, patient, proactive and resilient.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere for learning.

  • Adapt to dynamic classroom environments with confidence.

Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply).

  • Right to work in the UK.

  • Registration with the EWC (or willing to register).

  • Ability to provide two most recent references.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
