Job description

Ad Hoc SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary SEMH
Location: Skelmersdale
Contract: Flexible / Ad Hoc

We are currently seeking an Ad Hoc SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a primary SEMH setting in Skelmersdale. This is a flexible opportunity, ideal for individuals looking for varied work that fits around existing commitments.

The role involves supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health needs, both in and out of the classroom. You will play a key role in helping pupils regulate their behaviour, engage with learning, and develop positive relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing targeted support to pupils with SEMH needs

  • Supporting behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies

  • Working closely with class teachers and the wider support team

  • Creating a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

  • Offering 1:1 and small-group support as required

Requirements:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly SEMH

  • Proven behaviour management experience is essential

  • A calm, resilient, and consistent approach

  • Ability to adapt quickly in a dynamic school environment

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
