1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant (Year 3 Autism Support) – Full-Time Role

Location: Irlam
Start Date: November 2026
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm

About the Opportunity

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Irlam to recruit a dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) on a full-time basis from November 2026.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them reach their full potential. The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the pupil's academic progress, social development, communication skills and overall wellbeing throughout the school day.

The Role

As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to a Year 3 pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition, enabling them to access learning, build confidence and participate fully in school life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Support the pupil's engagement in classroom activities and learning opportunities
  • Implement strategies and interventions advised by the SENCO and external professionals
  • Encourage the development of communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills
  • Support the pupil in developing independence, confidence and self-esteem
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual needs
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with the pupil, family members and school staff
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment at all times

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience supporting children with autism and additional learning needs
  • Demonstrate a calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • Possess strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Be able to adapt support strategies to meet changing needs
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting children with SEND
  • Hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities within an educational setting
  • Hold Level 2 Safeguarding training or be willing to complete relevant training

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
