1:1 SEN Support Worker
Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Support Worker to provide tailored support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within specialist school settings. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about making a positive difference in a young person’s education and wellbeing. The school is a specialist independent day school, offering academic and therapeutic provision for students aged 11-16 with social, emotional and mental health needs, autism and additional learning needs. They aim to prepare students for life beyond school, so further education and employability is truly at the heart of their culture and ethos.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with SEN/SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom
- Support learning activities under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
- Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour management and social development
- Implement personalised support strategies and behaviour plans
- Promote independence, confidence and positive engagement
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families
- Maintain a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs (school, care or support settings)
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and safely
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
Desirable (but not essential)
- Team Teach or other behaviour management training
- Experience with autism, ADHD, trauma-informed practice or attachment needs
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Care or Psychology)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
