Youth Support Worker
Location: Carmarthen
Hours: 8:30 – 3:30 Monday to Friday
Salary: £13.75 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Youth Support Worker to join a behaviour unit in the Carmarthen area, supporting pupils to re-engage with learning, develop emotional resilience, and achieve their potential.
The role will be highly challenging but will offer you great job satisfaction and sense of achievement. We are very keen on speaking with individuals who have a background or interest in outdoor activities, sports of any kind, anything quirky that they can utilise to interact with children and young people.
About the Role
As a Youth Support Worker, you will:
- Work closely with pupils who display challenging behaviour, providing consistent, calm, and positive support
- Help young people develop emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence
- Support learning inside and outside the classroom
- Build strong relationships based on trust, respect, and clear boundaries
- Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
- Be a positive role model and advocate for pupils who need it most
What we’re looking for in a Youth Support Worker
You don’t need to be perfect — you need to be committed, compassionate, and resilient.
- Understand or are keen to learn about behavioural needs, trauma-informed practice, or SEMH
- Ideally you will have previous experience working with children/young people with challenging behaviour and social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH).
- A Team-Teach qualification or relevant qualification is highly desirable, but not essential.
- An understanding and flexible nature is essential, alongside being proactive, empathetic, engaging and creative.
- Be patient, engaging and calm when under pressure.
Requirements
- Have an Enhanced DBS on the update service – or able to obtain one
- Ideally hold a full UK driving license
- Be registered with the EWC (Education Workforce Council) or willing to

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
