Do you have experience of teaching in upper Key Stage 2 and are looking for part-time work in a local primary school?
A role has arisen in a Preston school supporting Year 6 pupils with their learning in preparation for the end of Key Stage SATs tests. The school are particularly aiming to boost attainment in reading and the pupils’ confidence in answering reasoning style questions in maths. The working hours are 13:00 – 15:30, which equates to 12.5 hours per week. The position is to start Monday 4th November and will continue until the end of the 2019-2020 academic year.
The school is two-form entry and is based in the South Ribble region of Preston, catering for a mixed catchment area. It is a warm and friendly school, where everyone is valued for their individuality and nurtured to be happy and successful. The leadership team within school is said to be extremely supportive and are highly welcoming of new staff members. In their most recent Ofsted inspection, the school was graded ‘good’. Pupils behave well and attend school regularly. Parents and families are effusive in their praise for the school. They feel that it is a very inclusive school and children are cared for well.
The successful candidate will be required to plan for daily interventions and carry out assessments in order to track progress and identify gaps in the pupils’ learning. Accordingly, good knowledge of the statutory teacher assessment frameworks for the end of KS2 in English and maths is essential. The successful candidate will have taught previously in upper Key Stage and will have a good understanding of best practice for teaching English and maths. There will be a designated room within school for the interventions to be carried out and there is storage available if necessary. Groups will range from 2-8 pupils, depending on their individual needs. The pupils will be identified as needing intervention by the Class Teachers and SLT, and this can be for a number of reasons. Excellent communication and an ability to work effectively as a team is crucial, as the Intervention Teacher will be expected to work closely alongside the two Year 6 Class Teachers.
