Job description

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Plymouth
Hours: Full-Time / Part-Time options available
Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience)


About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs in a school setting. This is a rewarding role for someone passionate about making a real difference to children’s learning and development.

Please note: Previous experience working with children is essential. Applications from candidates without hands-on experience in a childcare or educational setting will not be considered.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with SEN

  • Support pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or other additional needs

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering lessons

  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and confidence

  • Help children access the curriculum and develop independence

  • Maintain accurate records and report progress to the teacher/SENCO


Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience working with children (school, childcare, youth work, or similar)

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN is highly desirable

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Reliable, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)


Desirable

  • Relevant SEN qualifications or CPD

  • Team Teach or behaviour management training

  • Experience in outreach, PRU, or alternative provision settings

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
