Teaching Personnel is recruiting on behalf of a friendly and supportive primary school in Firswood for a dedicated Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join their team from November 2026.
This rewarding opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact during an important stage of children's development. Working closely alongside the class teacher, you will support pupils in building strong foundations in learning, developing confidence, and reaching their full potential within a positive and engaging classroom environment.
The Role
As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils throughout the school day and helping to create an inclusive and nurturing learning experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting Year 1 pupils during whole-class lessons, small group interventions, and on a one-to-one basis
- Assisting with phonics, literacy, numeracy, and wider curriculum activities
- Encouraging confidence, independence, and positive attitudes towards learning
- Providing additional support for children with SEND and EAL needs
- Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining pupil engagement across the classroom
- Assisting with the preparation of learning resources and maintaining an organised learning environment
- Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and parents to support pupil progress and wellbeing
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and caring individual who is passionate about supporting young children's learning and development.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have previous experience supporting children within a primary school setting
- Be confident working with Key Stage 1 pupils, ideally within Year 1
- Demonstrate patience, adaptability, and a nurturing approach
- Be reliable, proactive, and able to use their own initiative
- Possess strong communication and teamwork skills
- Hold a Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
