Teaching Personnel are working with multiple Schools in the Portsmouth and surrounding areas to provide cover supervisors in the absence of teachers.

What is a cover supervisor?

A cover supervisor's role is an excellent starting point to gain experience within secondary schools. The school will expect you to stand in place of a teacher in their absence, covering lessons that are already planned. You will be expected to present the students with their work and maintain classroom management throughout their lesson, reporting any feedback where necessary. You will be supported by SLT when needed with on call systems to ensure behaviour problems are quickly dealt with.

It is likely you will cover a multiple range of subjects throughout your day, gaining you great insight into teaching and the depth of the curriculum. You may also be required to deliver your subject specialism, giving you great exposure to local school in order to support you future teaching applications. This experience will enable you to create an excellent portfolio ready for a PGCE application of SCITT programme.

If you meet the following criteria, we would to hear from you:

• Graduate of University or final year student
• Confident in speaking in front of a class
• Excellent communication skills
• Available for at least 1 day per week (can be flexible week to week)
• Looking to gain experience within schools
• Previous roles as a sports coach, youth worker or tutor would be advantageous
