PMLD/CLDD Teaching Assistant

Location: Chelmsford
Contract: Full-time / Long-term / Temp-to-perm


About the Role

Are you a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) or Complex Learning Disabilities and Difficulties (CLDD)?
We are working with a fantastic special school that provides a nurturing, inclusive, and person-centred environment for children and young people with additional needs. The school is looking for a caring and resilient individual to join their team and make a real difference to students’ lives.


Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Supporting pupils with PMLD/CLDD in all aspects of their learning and development.
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility, including moving and handling and hoisting (full training provided if needed).
  • Supporting pupils with complex medical needs, including those with epilepsy and dysphagia.
  • Using communication aids and sensory resources to engage and motivate pupils.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to deliver individualised education and care plans.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with PMLD/CLDD (school, residential, or care setting).
  • Understanding of safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
  • A patient, positive, and compassionate approach.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Desirable CPD and Training (or willingness to undertake):

Moving and Positioning – including Hoisting
Epilepsy Awareness
Dysphagia Training

(We can support your professional development and provide access to these CPD courses if not already completed.)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
