Unqualified Learning Support Assistant – Additional Needs Base
Secondary School | Barry (CF62) | September 2026 Start
£93 per day | Full Academic Year (Monday to Friday 08:10-15:10)

We are seeking a dedicated, patient and enthusiastic Unqualified Learning Support Assistant to join a thriving Additional Needs Base within a secondary school in Barry (CF62) from September 2026 for the full academic year.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, educational psychologists, counsellors, social workers, or anyone looking to build a rewarding career supporting young people.
The Role
Working closely with pupils aged 11-18, you will support students with a range of additional learning and wellbeing needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Anxiety
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Moderate learning difficulties
You will work both within mainstream classrooms and the school's specialist Additional Needs Base, helping pupils access learning, build confidence and achieve their potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small-group support
- Assisting students with GCSE and A-Level coursework
- Offering emotional support and encouragement throughout the school day
- Supporting students to engage positively in lessons
- Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and social skills
- Working closely with teaching staff, ALN teams and pastoral support staff
- Building positive and trusting relationships with young people
What We're Looking For
Previous Teaching Assistant or Learning Support experience is not required.
However, due to the academic nature of the role and the possibility of supporting pupils studying GCSE and A-Level qualifications, applicants must have:
- A degree OR a minimum of A-Levels
- Strong literacy, numeracy and communication skills
- A calm, patient and approachable personality
- A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
- The ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model
- Experience supporting children or vulnerable adults, either professionally, voluntarily or through personal circumstances
- A willingness to undertake training and continuously develop within the role
