Are you a recent English graduate looking to pursue a career in the education sector?

Are you looking for a paid role after completing your degree as well as gaining valuable experience to support a future PGCE application?

Teaching Personnel are looking to register and recruit English graduates to work within our partnered secondary schools as an English Cover Supervisor. We work with a number of secondary schools across the local authority of Barnsley.

The role of an English cover supervisor requires an English graduate who is confident, adaptable and flexible in their approach. This is due to the role involving covering a permanent teacher's timetable and classes usually on a daily basis. The teacher will leave set work and planned lessons for you to deliver, working in the absence of the teacher. As the English cover supervisor responsible for the students you will ensure students remain on task, complete the set work and are behaving through effective behaviour management strategies in line with the school's policies.

There are part time, temporary and full time opportunities as a number of schools have asked for a full time cover supervisor to work with them for half a term or a term from September.

Highlights of the cover supervisor role for graduates:

  • Pay ranging between £275 - £350 per week (depending on the area, school and previous experience
  • Gain valuable experience working in a secondary school setting supporting a future PGCE or trainee teacher application
  • Networking opportunities working alongside qualified teachers
  • Work in a variety of secondary schools suited towards the individual graduate including academic and more challenging schools in regards to behaviour
  • Regular training and CPD opportunities with Teaching Personnel's links to National Teaching Schools

The role of a cover supervisor will suit recent graduates who have some experience of engaging with young adults aged 11 - 16. This could be in a school setting, in a youth club or as a sports coach for example. Confidence is paramount as well as having a professional manner when applying yourself within a secondary school environment. If you are looking to pursue a future role in teaching, then apply now with your latest CV.
