Teaching assistants / Support workers / Youth workers

Have you got experience working as a teaching assistant, youth worker, support worker, care or counselling? Do you have an ability to relate to and communicate with young people who are in danger of making the wrong choices in life? If so, look no further!

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a number of PRU's and mainstream secondary schools to recruit for excellent teaching assistants/support staff who may have social, emotional and mental health needs. Students you work with may pose challenging behaviour and refuse to concentrate or engage and may cause disruption within the classroom. As a teaching assistant, it will be your job to assist the student to try and re-engage him/her and minimise the disruption. You will need to act as a role model and have a calming influence whilst supporting them, having an easy going but resilient attitude.

The ideal candidate will be motivating and encouraging, helping students believe in themselves and help them reach their full potential. Some intervention and general emotional support may be required.

The curriculum is based on a number of vocational subjects as well as core subjects to meet the minimum requirements of secondary education. The vocational subjects suit a more active mind and hands on attitude to learning as well as improving focus in the classroom. You will be required to supervise the students and support the teacher and other assistants during lesson times.

This role is expected to be challenging but can reap many rewards in terms of job satisfaction. Ideally you will have experience in a similar role or relevant experience. You must also have a child workforce DBS which is registered to the update service or willing to apply for one.

*Contracts are usually hired on a temporary basis with an opportunity to becoming permanent based on your performance in the school.*
