Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant?

Are you passionate about supporting the holistic needs of SEN pupils?

Are you able to provide a creative, differentiated curriculum?

Are you seeking a new challenge?

If so, we have an opportunity for you…

Due to expansion, a Special School in Bradford are seeking a Teaching Assistant on a full time basis (term time only). This is a classroom based role, working under the supervision of a class teacher to support pupils to access a differentiated curriculum.

The school is situated in Thornbury and caters for 250 pupils aged 2-19 with complex Special Educational Needs. Students follow a broad and a balanced curriculum throughout school - whilst recognising that the personalisation of individual timetables leads to improved outcomes for young people. The access to a range of interventions enables the school to deliver a personalised curriculum, incorporating the following areas:

  • Physical development
  • Communication
  • Literacy and reading
  • Emotional Health and Wellbeing
  • Social skills

As a Special Needs Teaching Assistant, it will be your role to provide a secure, nurturing and supportive environment that encourages holistic learning, recognising potential and celebrating success in whatever form it takes. You will maintain high personal expectations of individual pupils and equip all learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to living as independent a life as possible. You will work with a large staff team of specialist teachers, support assistants, medical professionals and therapists to provide a curriculum that places the individual as its focus and recognises the development of the whole child.

All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan to meet their needs, which range from Moderate to Severe Learning Disabilities, Autism and Global Developmental Delay. 90% of pupils have a diagnosis of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). Previous experience of working with individuals with SEN in an education, or health care setting is essential. We also welcome applications from those with a background in Playwork, Sports coaching or Speech and Language Therapy. You will be confident in working with pupils to support engagement with learning activities - and in using alternative modes of communication including PECs and Makaton (training can be provided).

Working with Teaching Personnel you will have access to a range of benefits including:

  • A dedicated consultant with a wealth of experience within the education sector.
  • Competitive rates of pay
  • FREE access to courses contributing to your Continued Professional Development (CPD)
  • Recommend a friend scheme
  • Candidate of the month and Teaching Assistant of the Year Awards

For more information, or to apply for this Special Needs Teaching Assistant role, please contact Rebecca Holden on the details provided.
