Teaching Personnel are working closely with a special educational needs (SEN) school in Greenford for children with severe learning difficulties, autism, complex and sensory needs. The school has been rated outstanding by Ofsted and aims to provide an educational environment which celebrates the uniqueness of every child.

The school is a community, working as a multi-professional team and in partnership with pupils, parents, carers and agencies across Ealing.

The school are looking for an experienced, engaging and encouraging SEN teaching assistant. The role will support children in class and throughout the school day with personalised specialist provision. A successful SEN teaching assistant will be a team player, self-efficient and patient with a passion to support special needs children.  

The School:

The school has two departments for children with autism and profound multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) which focus on bespoke learning and development plans.

The school is fully facilitated for children with complex special needs. This includes in class hoists, moving and handling equipment, on-site hydrotherapy pool, therapy rooms, soft play areas, cooking rooms, sports facilities, in-house therapy teams and state-of-the art specialised technology.

The school additionally provide CPD training for all long-term staff in Makaton, Team Teach, Moving and Handling, PECS, TEACCH, behaviour management and special needs resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Safeguarding children in care and providing a safe environment for SEN children to thrive
  • Supporting pupils in class and throughout the school day 1:1 or in small groups with play, therapy and learning activities
  • Greeting pupils on arrival and accompanying to parents at end of school day
  • Creating resources (PECS, TEACCH) and working collaboratively with class teacher and/or therapists
  • Adapting learning and development plans, observing and recording pupil progress
  • Assisting staff with personal care (hygiene) and moving and handling (manual handling) support for pupils when required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1:1 experience in supporting special needs (Autism, physical disabilities, PMLD, speech and language and/or severe learning difficulties)
  • Experience or confidence supporting children in play based/sensory and academic learning
  • Experience or confidence supporting children with personal care/moving and handling (manual handling)
  • Experience with PECS, Makaton and TEACCH is highly beneficial
  • Safeguarding qualification or ability to complete our FREE course prior to working with children
  • Valid child DBS with online update service registration
  • Availability either full-time Monday to Fridays or a minimum of 3 days Monday to Friday 8:30-4:00pm on request (ad-hoc requirements)

Pay: GBP66.80 – 75 per day with pay increased after 12 consecutive working weeks (AWR)

Location: Greenford, Ealing  – easily accessible from Harrow, Wembley, Acton and Northolt

Duration:  September 2021 to July 2022 dependant on positive feedback with permanent contract opportunities

Pupil Needs:  Autism (ASC), severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)

Pupil Ages: 5-11 years old

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
