Teaching Assistant – SEND Support (Year 2)
Location: Skelmersdale 
Start Date: 13th April
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am – 3:20pm (Term Time Only)

We are seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Skelmersdale, supporting a child in Year 2 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The child is enthusiastic and eager to learn, with a positive attitude towards school. They are currently working below age-related expectations, accessing learning at a Nursery level. There are no behavioural concerns, and the child responds particularly well to encouragement, including the use of positive reinforcement such as smiley faces, alongside carefully scaffolded tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support tailored to the child’s individual learning needs
  • Adapt and scaffold activities to support access to the curriculum
  • Use positive reinforcement strategies to encourage engagement and progress
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement support plans
  • Foster a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEND (desirable but not essential)
  • Be patient, empathetic, and adaptable in their approach
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting children’s learning and development
  • Be able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Have a proactive and flexible attitude

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
