Teaching Assistant – Primary SEMH Provision
Location: Skelmersdale
Start: As soon as possible
Contract: Long-term / ongoing

We are seeking a committed and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded primary setting specialising in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) provision in Skelmersdale. This is a long-term role with an immediate start, ideal for professionals passionate about supporting children to achieve positive outcomes and build confidence within a calm and nurturing environment.

About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work under the direction of class teachers and senior leaders to support pupils with SEMH needs and other complex profiles. You will:

  • Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups to help them access learning and develop social, emotional and behavioural regulation.

  • Collaborate with teaching staff to implement personalised strategies drawn from Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment that fosters trust, resilience and respect.

  • Support pupils with day-to-day classroom routines and transitions.

  • Assist with therapeutic and pastoral activities that promote pupil wellbeing and engagement.

The Setting
This primary SEMH provision is highly regarded and externally recognised for its nurturing ethos and tailored pathways designed to meet individual needs. Pupils aged 4–11 attend with EHCPs, and the curriculum is designed to integrate academic learning with structured social and emotional development. The provision is underpinned by a strong vision of enabling all children to feel safe, valued and successful, supported by consistent routines and positive adult relationships.

Candidate Requirements
We are looking for candidates who:

  • Are patient, resilient and committed to inclusion.

  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEMH or similar additional needs (desirable but not essential; training can be provided).

  • Communicate clearly and build positive relationships with young people and colleagues.

  • Support behaviour management strategies and uphold consistent expectations.

  • Are able to work constructively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
