SEMH Teaching Assistant – Blackburn (Immediate Start)
Contract: Full-time, minimum until the end of the summer term (potential for permanent)

A specialist school in Blackburn is seeking a confident and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a full-time role supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, where strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships are essential.

The provision supports pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education and require a structured, nurturing environment to help them re-engage with learning. Staff work closely with students to provide both academic support and emotional guidance throughout the school day.

The Role

  • Provide in-class and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs

  • Implement behaviour strategies and support pupils to regulate emotions

  • Build positive, consistent relationships with students to encourage engagement

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals

  • Support pupils both academically and socially throughout the school day

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs

  • Calm, patient, and confident managing challenging behaviour

  • Backgrounds in youth work, coaching, care, or support work are highly relevant

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A proactive and resilient approach to supporting young people

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
