PMLD Teaching Assistant

Are you a support worker, care worker, youth worker or teaching assistant looking to transition into a rewarding role within a specialist school environment? We are currently recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN school in Preston that supports children and young people with a range of additional needs, including autism, communication difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs.

The Role

You will work as part of a supportive staff team to provide both classroom and individual support to pupils with complex additional needs. The role will involve working closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Supporting pupils in the classroom on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
• Helping students access learning activities and remain engaged
• Supporting communication and social development, providing personal care where needed
• Assisting with behaviour management using positive strategies
• Providing emotional support and building positive relationships with pupils

• Support workers
• Residential care workers
• Youth workers
• Behaviour mentors
• Teaching assistants
• Mental health support workers

Experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs is beneficial but not essential. Patience, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting young people are key.
