An enhanced resource school in the Mackworth area of Derby are looking for a specialist SEN Teaching Assistant, ideally with experience specifically in Autism.
The school has 2 Autism units, one in the Infant side of the school and one in the Junior side of the school. A Teaching Assistant is required in the Junior part of the school, specifically in the Autism unit. The school is well renowned in the area for catering for students on the Autistic spectrum so they are highly regarded for their specialist staff and knowledge in how to effectively support these children.
Therefore, we are looking for a candidate who can integrate into the school, offering a pro-active and pragmatic approach in a busy, vibrant environment.
The ideal candidate for this role will be:
- Someone with Autism experience either in care settings or school settings, or any personal experience of Autism
- Experience with Makaton
- Experience with PECS
- Experience with Now and Next boards or visual timetables
- Confident to manage challenging behaviour
- Qualified with a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
- Able to differentiate to a broad variety of needs
- Confident to deal effectively with any safeguarding requirements in line with Teaching Personnel and the school's safeguarding policy
