Job description

Teaching personnel are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant’s to join the school faculty starting September 6th. It will be a full-time position working closely with a pupil with autism. With a great Cardiff location, the school currently educates over 1,400 pupils.

Due to COVID-19 we have been tasked with resourcing the right candidates to be prepared and ready to enter back into the school environment in September. You will be paired with one of the 15 pupils who will be joining the school and who have Autism. Entering mainstream high school can be daunting for any pupil but for pupils with autism the change in routine can often be one which needs to be managed effectively to support with as little disruption to their wellbeing as possible.

The ideal Teaching Assistant…

  • Be able to work Monday – Friday
  • Have experience with Autism
  • Confident with 1:1 support
  • Sports or Care background (preferred not essential)

You will be required to work 1:1 with this pupil ensuring they are on task and coping with the changes of the school environment, but this will not be the occasion for every day. It is important to encourage independence and forward thinking while in school to help prepare the pupil for adult life. Meaning that you will be required support other pupils with similar learning abilities in addition.

The school has a dedicated wellbeing and inclusion area for pupils with additional needs. You will be primarily based within that area to help support the pupils in a more controlled environment for there learning. With the addition of going to lessons to help the pupils grow and adapt to mainstream school.
