Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel are currently seeking 2 new behaviour support assistants to work in a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health provision catering to pupils with complex needs. The needs of attending pupils are varied, but may include:

• Extreme behaviour problems
• Anti-social and disengaged behaviour
• ADHD

The school caters for 55 pupils split between 7 classes; offering pupils the opportunity to progress both academically, emotionally and socially. Attending pupils have all been statemented, taken out of mainstream schooling and working to Education and Health Care Plans.

The outstanding provision caters for pupils from across the entirety of Hampshire, with the majority of pupils attending the school access public school transport. Additionally, the provision is 1 of only 2 specialist schools in Hampshire which provides residential care. In the most recent Ofsted review the “leadership and management of both the school and the residential provision are exceptional.”

The Role:

For this role applicants will be working in classes formed of between 7 and 9 pupils, working on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis collaboratively with the class teacher and 2 or 3 additional Support Workers. The role will operate between 8.30 and 3.30, Monday to Friday. Full time is preferred but part time applicants may still apply, as job shares can be available.

The candidate:

Applicants must have previous experience working with complex behaviour or challenging needs, either professionally or personally. A minimum of GCSE English and Maths (A-C) in a minimum requirement; with further education being beneficial. Additional qualifications which may be useful include: Team Teach or PECS.
