Job description

Key Stage 1 SEN Support Role – 1:1 with a Child with Autism
Location: Southampton, Hedge End & Fair Oak
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full-time (term-time only)
Pay: £90 - £95 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)

Are you a passionate and nurturing KS1 educator with experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs? Teaching Personnel are currently working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in the local area, who are seeking a dedicated SEN specialist to work 1:1 with a child in Year 1 with a diagnosis of autism.

This is a long-term, full-time position offering the chance to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey. You’ll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to help create a tailored and engaging learning experience for the pupil.

The Role:

  • Supporting a bright and curious child with autism on a 1:1 basis in a Key Stage 1 classroom

  • Implementing strategies to support emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction

  • Adapting tasks and routines to meet the child’s individual needs

  • Liaising with external professionals and parents to ensure consistent and effective support

  • Promoting independence and confidence, both in and out of the classroom

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism (essential)

  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and learning styles

  • Patient, compassionate, and adaptable – able to build trust and rapport with young learners

  • Confident using visual aids, structured routines, and sensory strategies

  • Team player who’s proactive and willing to learn

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
