Key Stage 1 SEN Support Role – 1:1 with a Child with Autism
Location: Southampton, Hedge End & Fair Oak
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Full-time (term-time only)
Pay: £90 - £95 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Are you a passionate and nurturing KS1 educator with experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs? Teaching Personnel are currently working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in the local area, who are seeking a dedicated SEN specialist to work 1:1 with a child in Year 1 with a diagnosis of autism.
This is a long-term, full-time position offering the chance to make a real difference in a child’s educational journey. You’ll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider school staff to help create a tailored and engaging learning experience for the pupil.
The Role:

Supporting a bright and curious child with autism on a 1:1 basis in a Key Stage 1 classroom

Implementing strategies to support emotional regulation, communication, and social interaction

Adapting tasks and routines to meet the child’s individual needs

Liaising with external professionals and parents to ensure consistent and effective support

Promoting independence and confidence, both in and out of the classroom
Ideal Candidate:
-
Previous experience supporting children with SEN, particularly autism (essential)

Strong understanding of early childhood development and learning styles
-
Patient, compassionate, and adaptable – able to build trust and rapport with young learners

Confident using visual aids, structured routines, and sensory strategies
-
Team player who’s proactive and willing to learn

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
