Teaching assistant

Location: Saltash, Cornwall

Start Date: 18/9/26
Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm
Contract: Full time

Compassionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with experience delivering high-quality support and interventions in a range of primary schools in the Saltash area. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will support pupils with their learning, encourage independence, promote engagement in lessons and activities, and help create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment where every child can succeed.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. Working closely with teachers and other professionals, you will help create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment that enables every pupil to thrive. This role is ideal for someone who has previous experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, communication difficulties, learning disabilities, or social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • Support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that meet individual learning needs.
  • Implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual learning programmes.
  • Promote positive behaviour and implement behaviour support strategies consistently.
  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of learning resources and classroom materials.
  • Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
  • Assist with personal care and physical support where required, in line with individual care plans.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an educator who:

  • Is adaptable and comfortable working with different special educational needs.
  • Has experience with SEN education.
  • Has a clear understanding of Safeguarding and keeping children safe in education.
  • Is enthusiastic, reliable and committed to providing high-quality learning experiences.
  • Can build strong, positive relationships with children.
  • Is available for full-time work.

Working Hours

Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
