Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (ALN Support)

Location: Monmouthshire
Pay Rate: £13.75 per hour
Start Date: 1st September 2025
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:00pm
Contract: Term Time Only | Temporary to Permanent Opportunity


About the Role

Are you passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives? We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Monmouthshire. You'll play a key role in supporting pupils across Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4), helping them reach their full potential.

This role is ideal for those with experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Additional Learning Needs (ALN), including those with personal experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, or other learning differences.


Key Responsibilities

✔️ Provide tailored support to students aged 11–16 during lessons and intervention sessions
✔️ Deliver 1:1 and small group learning support, particularly for pupils with ALN, autism, and ADHD
✔️ Support teaching staff in maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment
✔️ Assist with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and resource development
✔️ Encourage student engagement and help manage classroom behaviour
✔️ Promote the emotional well-being and academic success of all learners


What We’re Looking For

✔️ Previous experience working with young people in education, childcare, youth work, or similar settings
✔️ ALN/SEN support experience – personal or professional backgrounds welcomed
✔️ Positive, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children and young people
✔️ Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative team
✔️ Relevant qualifications or training (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Psychology degree, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential

Essential Requirements

➡️ Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
➡️ EWC (Education Workforce Council) registration (or willingness to apply)
➡️ Ability to provide 2 professional references covering the past 24 months
➡️ Safeguarding training (this can be provided as part of your onboarding process)
