Job description
Position: Teaching Assistant – Reception
Location: Primary School, Burgess Hill, West Sussex
Contract Type: Permanent / Fixed Term (as applicable)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, Term Time Only
Hours: 8:20 am – 3:20 pm (6.5 hours per day)
Pay: Grade 3 – Scale Point 3 (£24,796 pro rata)
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Burgess Hill, supporting the Reception class. The successful candidate will contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment and assist teachers in delivering engaging and tailored lessons to support young pupils’ early learning and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning within the Reception classroom and small group settings.
- Provide individual support to young pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
- Foster strong, positive relationships with Reception children and staff.
- Assist in creating and maintaining a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment appropriate for early years education.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and support colleagues to improve pupil outcomes.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience supporting children in a Reception or early years setting within a primary school or educational environment.
- Understanding of SEN and differentiated learning support.
- A patient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to early years learning support.
- A relevant qualification or First Aid training is desirable but not essential.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive school culture and promoting pupil wellbeing.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
