Teacher of Special Needs

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a specialist secondary school for pupils with Special Educational Needs. This includes pupils with severe and complex needs, Autism and Social Emotional Mental Health. The school is looking to appoint an experienced SEN Teacher to join their team on a long term supply basis.

Applications are welcome from teachers who have worked in a mainstream or specialist background. The ability to work with students with a range of needs and to really make a difference essential.

Training or experience in the following would be beneficial but not essential:

• Makaton
• Picture Exchange Communication (PECs)
• Team Teach
• Autism Awareness

You will be expected to teach across the national curriculum and covering varied subject areas. Classes are split based on age, so you will be required to differentiate work for varying levels within each class. The successful candidate will be required to commit to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with students. You will have the ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues and parents/carers, conveying timely and relevant information about attainment, objectives, progress and well-being.

You must know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
