Sports Coach Wanted – Primary School Teaching Assistant Role (Newport)
Put your coaching skills to work in the classroom!

Location: Newport, South Wales
Hours: Full-Time (Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:00pm)
Start Date: September 2025 – July 2026

Are you energetic, resilient, and passionate about helping young people succeed? We are looking for an enthusiastic Sports Coach to join a vibrant primary school in Newport as a Teaching Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring your love for sport into the education setting – and continue coaching through lunchtime and after-school clubs.


About the Role:

  • Support pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs in both classroom and outdoor settings.

  • Assist teachers during lessons, with a focus on PE and active learning.

  • Lead or help run sports sessions during breaks and after school.

  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment that encourages learning through activity.

  • Be a positive role model for children aged 4–11, helping them engage with school through teamwork and trust.

Located in Newport, this inclusive primary school has a dedicated specialist resource base supporting children with a variety of additional learning needs (ALN) and behavioural challenges. Class sizes are small, staff are highly supportive, and the leadership team is committed to staff development.
The school strongly believes in the power of physical activity to drive engagement and progress, and has successfully supported sports coaches into long-term careers in education.


Ideal Candidate:

  • Background in sports, coaching, or youth work.

  • Experience working with children or young people, especially those needing behavioural or emotional support.

  • Resilient, calm under pressure, and able to build strong, respectful relationships.

  • Passionate about helping pupils succeed both in and out of the classroom.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
