SPECIALIST TEACHING ASSISTANT REQUIRED - NELSON PRIMARY SCHOOL

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a Primary school in Nelson who are looking to appoint an experienced Teaching Assistant to join their successful and friendly team. The role is to support a child in Year 1 with Down Syndrome. The pupil requires 1:1 care throughout the school day, this entails personal care, communicational & academic support. The role would be full time, 8:30 - 3:30, Monday - Friday.

To be considered for the role, you must have experience of supporting young people or adults with physical disabilities and/or additional needs, cognitive disabilities and complex needs. Supporting a child with Down Syndrome would be desirable but not essential. Experience supporting pupils who are non-verbal and have relatively severe disabilities would be beneficial. You will be comfortable providing personal care.

It is essential that you have the ability to differentiate and adapt learning resources to meet individual pupil needs. You will have a holistic and person centred approach and the flexibility to address and respond to social, emotional and personal needs.

You will have excellent communication skills and the desire to improve learning experiences for those with additional needs in a specialist setting. You will be responsible for keeping a log of all activities completed by the child & meet with the school SENCO on a fortnightly basis.
