Specialist Teaching Assistant – Supporting Pupils with ADHD & Autism

Full-Time, Temporary (With the opportunity to transition into a permanent role)

Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs? Do you want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who need extra guidance to succeed? Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a vibrant primary school in Wigan to recruit a dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant to work closely with pupils diagnosed with ADHD, helping them develop both academically and socially.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is patient, adaptable, and committed to providing positive, tailored support for pupils with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused one-to-one and small group support for pupils with ADHD.
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning plans and applying positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to adapt and deliver engaging learning activities.
  • Help foster a supportive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment.
  • Monitor pupil progress and regularly report back to teaching staff and the SENCO.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support pupil development.
  • Encourage pupils to build confidence, develop independence, and engage fully in school life.
  • Support pupils during wider school activities, trips, and events when required.

What We Are Looking For?

  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably in an education or SEN setting.
  • A good understanding of ADHD and practical strategies to support pupils with additional needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient, and compassionate approach to working with pupils.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
  • Relevant qualifications or specialist SEN training (desirable but not essential).
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
